Common questions about NIN enrolment

Is NIN enrolment free?
Yes. First-time NIN enrolment is free at NIMC centres. You should never pay anyone to enrol you.
How long does enrolment take?
The biometric capture itself usually takes about 30 to 45 minutes once it's your turn, but queues can be long, so go early.
Can someone enrol on my behalf?
No. You must be physically present for biometric capture. Proxy enrolment and proxy collection are not allowed.
What's the minimum age for the ID card?
Anyone can be enrolled and get a NIN, but the physical national ID card is issued from age 16.
